I think a lot of people have forgiveness all wrong. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you forget what a person has done to you. It doesn’t mean God no longer sees what was done to you. It doesn’t mean it excuses their actions or says that what they did was acceptable. God is a God of justice, and He sees every tear, every betrayal, every wound, and every injustice.
Forgiveness is first about keeping your own heart right before God🙌, the same God who has forgiven you of your own sins and trespasses🤍
“And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:32)
Forgiveness brings you out of bondage🙌🏼.
Unforgiveness is like living in a prison with the door unlocked, yet your refusing to walk out! Every day you stay there, you’re allowing the hurt to continue controlling your life. But forgiveness holds the key to freedom🔑.
Forgiveness opens doors that unforgiveness could NEVER open. It protects your heart from becoming bitter😖. It keeps unnecessary warfare from following you. It allows you to walk in the peace, joy, and freedom that God desires for His children🤍.
Jesus said, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14–15)
Forgiving someone whether they apologized or NOT, takes maturity, both in the mind and in the spirit. Your forgiveness is NOT dependent upon their repentance! It is an act of obedience to God🙌🏼.
Forgiveness does NOT always mean reconciliation. Relationships require healthy boundaries, wisdom, and distance. You can forgive someone while still protecting the peace God has given you.
The enemy wants to keep you chained to yesterday, but Christ came to set the captives free🎉🙌🏼🎊!
If you’ve been living in the prison of unforgiveness, I pray today is the day you choose freedom. Forgive those who have hurt you. Forgive those who betrayed you. Forgive those who lied on you, abandoned you, rejected you, abused you, or spoke against you!
Don’t let yesterday continue to steal from your tomorrow. Lay it at the feet of Jesus.
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.”
(Ephesians 4:31)
Because forgiveness doesn’t set your past free… it sets YOU free🙌🏼!
