“Remember Lot’s wife.” (Luke 17:32) Three words, BUT SUCH a powerful warning
God was literally bringing Lot’s wife OUT of a place that was about to be destroyed! The instruction was absolutely clear! “Escape for thy life; look not behind thee…” (Genesis 19:17)
But she looked back. And that made me think… How many times does God bring you OUT of something, but your heart keeps looking BACK???
You run back to the relationship He told you to release. You run back to the friendship He separated you from! You run back to the lifestyle He delivered you from! You run back to the habits He told you to put down! You run back to the version of yourselves He called you OUT of!
Sometimes we keep looking back because what’s behind us is FAMILIAR… while what God is calling us into requires FAITH. But you canNOT walk confidently toward what God has for you while constantly turning around to mourn what He told you to leave behind!
And understand this, the Bible does not tell us exactly WHY Lot’s wife looked back, so I won’t pretend to know her heart. But the warning still remains, that when God says GO… YOU BETTER GO!
Some doors don’t need to be reopened. Some relationships don’t need one more conversation. Some seasons don’t need to be revisited. Some things just DON’T need closure… THEY ONLY NEED OBEDIENCE!
God brought you out for a reason. So stop romanticizing what He delivered you from just because the road ahead feels unfamiliar.
“I have decided to follow Jesus… No turning back. No turning back. The world behind me. The CROSS before me. NO TURNING BACK.”
